Culture (what else?) eats strategy for breakfast... what are the key points IT executives should focus on cloud Journey?

Viviam Ribeiro

Let's think about the main roadblocks that can impact the results of cloud migration business case and lowlight all the brilliant technical efforts.

How to motivate and inspire all teams in the organization to keep moving and focused in the long-term goals defined by digital transformation and cloud strategy?

How to identify symptoms of strategic misalignment and adjust the sails?

Also, will deep in main challenges for value creation in the short term (quick wins), which I consider the key steps to digital (or any kind of) transformation success.

Users Don't Have to Suffer in the Cloud

Melissa Jurkoic

The cloud has a lot to offer organizations - this is unquestionable. It is clear - the cloud has extraordinary potential to disrupt how IT manages applications and how IT delivers services to end users. The strategies to move to the cloud for enterprises usually steer towards either migrating their data centers to IaaS and PaaS. The impact to the end-user experience is often not considered in these plans. What if there was a third option? There is. A hub and spoke architecture doesn't sacrifice user experience or data integrity and frees the enterprise to make the right technology decisions without impacting user adoption.

Running Kubernetes inside System Containers: What, How and Why

Ruslan Synytsky

Currently, most of the Kubernetes solutions are offered on top of VMs and there is a room for further improvements. Implementing nested architecture of application containers running inside system containers opens additional flexibility of resource allocation and management, accelerates provisioning of the clusters and pods, as well as cuts the overall costs. Or in other words, it enhances provisioning, performance and price. During this session we?ll review the possibilities of running a Kubernetes cluster inside nested containers, what configurations should be taken into account, and how to overcome the barriers on the way to more efficient Kubernetes hosting.

Better software, faster: principles of Continuous Delivery and DevOps

Bert Jan Schrijver

The Wall Street Journal already mentioned it in 2011: Software is eating the world. Nowadays, every company is an IT company. Businesses see their competitors release new features to end-users every day and demand the same from their own software teams.

But how do you measure up to this heavy pressure as an IT organization? How do you quickly make changes to software systems in fast-paced environments without losing your grip on quality? How do you build and test software in such a way that it's always in a releasable state?

This session explains the principles of Continuous Delivery and DevOps. You'll leave this session with enough insights into how and where to get started yourself.

We have gone serverless, and this is what happened.

Pieter de Visser

Two customers both decided to follow the agile-gurus and migrate a set of +/-15-year-old "legacy" systems from the hosted datacenters to the cloud and to go "serverless" in the process.

Going Serverless definitely gave back control to the (IT department of) the customers, but "cloud" and "serverless" did not come without some challenges. The deployment in the new situation is either via K8s, VMs, Containers, or Lambdas, and the databases are all DBaaS and still mostly Oracle). The overall experience has been Positive. The differences in approach between the two organizations also gave us some food for thought.

Reacting to an Event-Driven World

Grace Jansen

We now live in a world with data at its heart. The amount of data being produced every day is growing exponentially and a large amount of this data is in the form of events. Whether it be updates from sensors, clicks on a website or even tweets, applications are bombarded with a never-ending stream of new events. So, how can we architect our applications to be more reactive and resilient to these fluctuating loads and better manage our thirst for data? In this session explore how Kafka and Reactive application architecture can be combined in applications to better handle our modern data needs.
