Running Java Applications inside Kubernetes with Nested Containers. Cargo Tracker Deployment Demo

Tetiana Fydorenchyk

Currently, most of the Kubernetes solutions are offered on top of VMs and there is room for further improvements. Implementing nested architecture of application containers running inside system containers opens additional flexibility of resource allocation and management, accelerates provisioning of the clusters and pods, as well as cuts the overall costs. During this session we?ll review the possibilities of running a Java application, using Cargo Tracker as an example, inside Kubernetes cluster with nested container architecture, what configurations should be taken into account, and how to overcome the barriers on the way to more efficient Kubernetes hosting.

Istio: beyond just observability

Daniel Amadei

We generally look at Service Mesh platforms and Istio in particular with a focus only on observability but it can do much more than that and supports us with advanced topics such as traffic management, security, integration with tracing mechanisms and fault injection. Here we'll see how a service mesh like Istio can help us with these topics that go beyond service observability!

A talk about Agile without saying a word about Agile

Daniel Wildt

Let's have a conversation about Agile without using any direct reference from Agile Methodologies. :)

How do you improve things? How do you document? How do you prepare a team to innovation? How can you search for better quality? How do you discover things? How can you keep delivering?

I will go back to different principles, related to Deming's management points, Donella Meadows Systems Leverage Points, Lean Thinking Seven Wastes and Knowledge Management references from Nonaka and Takeuchi. And a few more (surprise). :D

If you are improving the system, things should become easier

Parallel Universe: Java Developer?s Guide to Front-End Development

Kito Mann

You?ve been comfortable building back-end services in Java or using a Java web framework. But now you must build an application using a JavaScript framework like Angular, React, Polymer, Ember, Backbone, or a home-grown mismatch of jQuery and custom code. Suddenly you have entered a parallel universe with foreign terms like ?bower?, ?node?, ?npm?, ?webpack?, ?rollup?, "AMD?, ?CommonJS?, ?ES6?, "ES.Next", ?ES2015?, ?TypeScript?, ?Babel?, ?gulp?, ?grunt?, ?shim?, ?polyfill?, and more. What do they all mean, and how are they related to each other? More importantly, how do they compare to what we know and love in the Java universe? Join us as we explore another universe.
