Fair Individual Compensation for Agile Teams with Team-Set Salaries

Klaus Wuestefeld

Throughout the last decade, management and HR gurus have recommended abolishing performance appraisals altogether, without providing any solution for fair compensation of individuals in collaborative teams. The industry as a whole is at a loss, struggling with several complicated approaches. Deloitte calls it ?The Compensation Conundrum?.

How can an agile team set fair compensation for its members without exceeding the budget? The Self-set Salaries, traditional 360ยบ appraisals and Mgt 3.0?s Salary Formula doesn?t help.

I will present the Team-Set Salaries process and explain why it is the only individual compensation process that is fair, actionable, collaborative, easy-to-use and scalable

How agility can really help us in a post pandemic world

Camila Capellão

The COVID-19 pandemic have shown us the non-linearity and unpredictability of our world. It seems that we were making plans for a predictable prosperous future, suddenly a flood of uncertainty took over the economy and society. People and companies had to adapt to new conditions of social isolation, fear and uncertainty. Many of them broke, some just survived. Those who responded most quickly to the changes, prospered.

We are talking about retaking, returning to the offices, trying to rescue the new old normal. We should be talking about how to go beyond those boundaries of the past. We must think about how to encourage and value interactions between people more than ever.

Thriving in the cloud: Going beyond the 12 factors

Grace Jansen

Enabling applications to really thrive (and not just survive) in cloud environments can be challenging. The original 12 factor app methodology helped to lay out some of the key characteristics needed for cloud-native applications... but... as our cloud infrastructure and tooling has progressed, so too have these factors. In this session we'll dive into the extended and updated 15 factors needed to build cloud native applications that are able to thrive in this environment, and we'll take a look at open source technologies and tools that can help us achieve this.

Hunting (and stopping!) threats with Elastic Security

David Pilato

You are a security analyst for your company. The IT Team has deployed Elastic agents on your infrastructure, including endpoints, firewalls... those agents are collecting logs, metrics and security related data for months.

One morning, you open Kibana and discover that some alerts have been thrown. Is that a real threat?

In this 100% live session, we will discover, step by step, with the free and open Elastic Security solution:

  • how to check if it's a real threat,
  • how to block it and stop its propagation,
  • how the intrusion has been made possible,
  • what techniques have been used,
  • have data been exfiltrated.

Fundamentals of Diversity and Inclusion for Technologists

Reza Rahman

Enhancing diversity and inclusion in every aspect of technology is an essential conversation everyone should be a part of. In an increasingly interconnected world, we have a shared responsibility to ensure technology is a force that works to benefit everyone, countering structural sources of inequity where needed.

This session aims to jump start your personal diversity and inclusion journey by explaining the basics in simple terms with relevant examples for technologists. Concepts covered will include unconscious bias, privilege, equity, allyship, covering and microaggressions.

Releasing at the speed of light

Andres Almiray

Your project has reached that stage when it?s a good idea to post binaries, but new questions appear such as where should they be posted? How do make it easier for users to install and discover your binaries? Where should releases be announced? Most importantly, can answers to these question be automated? Enter JReleaser, a tool that provides answers to these questions and more. JReleaser may be used to create GiHub/GitLab/Gitea releases and publish binaries that can be consumed from different distribution channels such as Homebrew, Snap, Scoop, and more. Once published, the release cab be automatically announced on Twitter, Slack, Gitter, Discord, and other communication channels.

Supercharge Your Cypress Tests With Plugins

Gleb Bahmutov

Do you like writing End-to-End tests using Cypress? What if I told you that you can unlock the full power of Cypress by ... writing JavaScript code to extend the built-in Test Runner features? Be able to add more testing features, write shorter tests, have more power at your disposal? Most people only scratch the surface of the web application tests, but if you learn how to use the existing plugins (and there are lots of them!) and write your own can take your tests to the next level.

Explaining machine learning to kids

Dale Lane

Children are growing up in a world where machine learning is fast becoming ubiquitous and will affect many aspects of their lives. So we should be helping them to understand what machine learning is and what it can do, and how it impacts the world around them.

This session will demonstrate free tools from IBM, MIT, Mozilla, and Google that can be used by children to learn about machine learning through hands-on creative activities. Children in schools and code clubs around the world are using these to make their own games and interactive ML projects, and learning about the way these technologies behave and are applied.
